An urban wetland behind Warriewood Mall. It’s a mixed experience. It’s a piece of nature owned by the local council who saved it from developers.
It is a haven for birds. We saw purple swamp hens, bell birds, noisy mynas and ducks. It is easily accessible, having many boardwalk paths.
There are Ross River virus warnings at the entrance. We went in winter, we’re well covered and it was early in the day so we did not worry. Easy walking.
The downside was seeing plastic waste in the waterways and lots of invasive weeds such as lantana, morning glory and arum lily. I feel the council could have done more in maintaining this special place. But the birds live it so who am I to argue!
